Quick Morning Workout

I’ll admit that from the middle to the end of my pregnancy I did not work out hardly ever! How I didn’t gain more weight than I did is amazing to me! I gained about 30 lbs and am back to my starting weight. However I still have some baby fat that is hanging on to the sides of my hips and stomach. My goal is to tone up and shrink my legs as well. Being a big soccer player in high school, I never had skinny legs and have always wanted to define them more. Since I’m so incredibly out of shape, I figure I have to start somewhere. Taking DH on long, fast-paced hour walks has been a start. Mornings are also not my things. Like I have mentioned before- I like to get ready quickly and head to work. I don’t allow myself time to spend taking my time and enjoying my mornings. It’s usually hectic and rushed as I grab all mine and DH’s things as we head for the babysitters. I have been telling myself I am going to get up earlier to work out and the last few days I have. However, like I said, I have to start somewhere. I did a 10 minute workout this morning with a cool down of stretching. It doesn’t seem like much but it makes me feel so much better both mentally and physically doing just a little bit of physical activity- even if it is just 10 minutes!

This Tone it Up video was super easy to follow and do this morning. It was a nice workout for being exhausted. You sit on the floor most of it doing legs and abs. Tone it Up has excellent videos and workouts to follow, they can be as easy or as hard as you want it to be which is perfect for me right now!

Healthy Hair- Savvy Curls – No Heat Curls

About 2 years before my wedding, I spent hours on Pinterest and other various blogs- searching for that perfect way to have decent hair without damaging it with a straightener or curling iron. It would grow to my shoulders and then I would have to cut it because it was so dead and damaged from my irons. I was dedicated to growing my hair out so that I could have beautiful, long curly hair on my wedding day (which I just ended putting up the day of).

Wedding Day (hair up!)

I did crazy things like going a week without washing my hair but only using baking soda and apple cider vinegar to clean it- heck I even convinced my husband to try it. He found it was WAY easier for him and didn’t really mind it. Where as I looked like I had dipped my whole head in a bucket of oil! YUCK-my hair was never going to grow long! I gave up on that and searched for my next fad. I then bought some sort of mud for your hair?? Terressentials seemed like the perfect fit for creating healthy hair. I realized that it didn’t seem to actually WASH my hair as it never soaped up, so my mom ended up taking them and really like the product. I was still on the search for that perfect product to help. Well, I never found it!

I eventually agreed to get rid of using my curling iron and straightener. Yup that’s right! For two years I didn’t use any heat on my hair. I only used my blow dryer when it was winter time and knew I would freeze if I didn’t blow dry it halfway. I finally got the long hair I wanted! Thinking of chopping my hair off like I had my first year in college terrifies me and I may have to keep long hair forever after all the hard work I have gone through!

I have been on the search for something that would make getting ready be even easier in the mornings and keeping my hair healthy but cute. I am the type of person who can shower, pick out my clothes (which definitely takes the longest), put on make up, do my hair, and be ready to leave the house in 20-25 minutes! I HATE getting ready. Here’s where I found my best friend- Savvy Curls Headband! Savvy Curls has made getting ready a breeze. I can snooze that alarm for the fourth time and know I have plenty of time to get ready still. All you do is wrap your hair around the headband and VOILA- perfect curls!

Every post I have read tells you to wrap your hair when it is freshly clean and mostly dry. I have tried this several times and realized that my stick straight hair does NOT hold it more than an hour! I tried mousse and hairspray and it still wouldn’t hold. The only way I have had success was doing it on day old hair- that’s right, usually when my hair is curled it means I didn’t wash my hair that day! 😛 I spray it with a spray bottle to get just the ends damp, then I start wrapping the hair around the headband using about 1 inch pieces. I also like wearing my headband on my forehead because it doesn’t leave a weird crease on the top of my head. OH! Did I mention the best part?? You can sleep in it!! I do this 5 minute routine before bed and then fall asleep. Since having a baby I move a lot and don’t sleep so sound anymore. I often worry this means I will have crazy hair or curls, but that headband does a wonderful job holding it in place!

Wrapped and ready to go!

I spray Marc Anthony Dream Waves Beach Spray on the wrapped curls to help hold the curls overnight.

Smells delicious!

When you wake up- if your hair seems damp still, I blow dry my hair on low hot heat and then cool to help set the curls. Then unwrap and you will have bouncy beautiful curls that last a day- or two if you’re lucky!

Some days I was so exhausted when I was pregnant that I didn’t have the energy to even think about getting ready so when I slept in my Savvy Curls headband, it took about two minutes to do my hair! I’m telling you-I found the secret to having pretty curls and not damaging your hair either! I love it and am so happy I found something that serves two purposes! (=

About Me!

Hi all! Wyoming has been home for the last several years to my husband and I. Before that I have lived in Texas, Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Colorado. We now have welcomed our beautiful daughter to the wonderful windy state of Wyoming. Our amazing baby girl has stolen our hearts and we couldn’t be happier with our simple yet incredible lives.

Our little family

I met my husband my first year in college at UW, where we both worked at a preschool while I got my bachelors degree in Elementary Education. I fell madly in love with his Nebraska charm and we got married in 2014 in the town where it all began. My second grade teaching job brought us to another small town in Wyoming (thankfully not as windy) where we have built an incredible life together. My husband got a great job as an Early Childhood Instructor right before I started student teaching and this was the start of our small town life.

Our wedding was magical

Together we love our newly changed lives of staying in on Friday nights, fitness, trying new foods- both making them and having them made for us, traveling to see family, and playing endless games of cards- where I usually win. =) July 8th of 2015 we were blessed with the best gift of all, a beautiful baby girl who has brought us so much joy and happiness. We have both learned so many life lessons in the last few months. This blog is about life, family, fitness, recipes, diy crafts, teaching, and anything else random.

My Baby Girl is 2 Months Old!

Sleepy little girl

My little girl is 2 months old! I feel like it wasn’t too long ago when I spent my mornings fighting the urge to throw up breakfast-if I was even able to stomach breakfast that day. I felt like the 1st trimester was never going to end. I prayed that the baby taking over my body was healthy, but man did I want that phase to end so badly. Well, I got my wish, fast forward full speed, I have a two month old! She is perfect in every single way. Her smiles make my entire day, even after all the stress my new second graders have caused so far this year.

Full of smiles

Speaking of those second graders- they are such a chatty group this year and have really challenged me and my teaching. I have had to re-create behavior management tools, pump up the level of engagement, and be on my toes constantly. The other day my husband and I spent our time together before putting DH to bed making “Quiet Critters”. They may as well be magic. My kids think they are the most adorable little creatures and will sit like soldiers hoping to get one while they are working. Here is how they work- a Quiet Critter needs a quiet home. They want to be with someone who is going to work hard and quietly or they will find a new home to go to. Pretty simple but the impact is huge on the environment of my classroom. It’s magic! My chattiest children are so quiet that I almost can’t believe it is that simple! They are a fun but challenging group. This leaves me feeling completely worn down and exhausted by the time I pick up my smiley baby from daycare.

Quiet Critters!

Back to the smiles, DH is loving to chat back and forth with mommy and daddy recently. She has rolled over, been sleeping through the night for a few weeks now, tries sitting up when laying in my lap, and really enjoys spending time with lots of family. The first night she slept through the night, my hubby and I both checked multiple times to make sure she was still breathing. She has always been a good sleeper-I’m a firm believer of the Swaddle Me sleepers- she sleeps so well for us when she wears it. That 23 inch body has outgrown the size small so we recently have moved into the next size. I highly recommend these swaddlers. As much as I always wanted to rock my baby to sleep- I knew from working with infants that they soon will rely on that motion to put them to sleep. My husband and I had agreed that we would let her fall asleep on her own so that within months of her life she was a good sleeper. Let me say, it has worked out tremendously. We love that she sleeps between us in a co-sleeper and that she will fall asleep on her own and stay asleep.

Enjoying time with her babysitter

Have you heard of a Wubba Nub? I didn’t either until my sister’s little nanny kid had one. Adorable and serve a great purpose-count me in! Since we call DH our “little duck”, it was only fitting we purchase the duck Wubba Nub. At first we used it in her co-sleeper or her carseat as she didn’t ever hold onto it. Now that she has found her hands, she is all about holding onto it. This can be good and bad for us. The good is that she figured out how to shove the pacifier part back into her mouth if it is in close range. The bad is that she likes to hold onto the side of the duck’s arm and yank that sucker out without meaning to, then screaming because she wants her pacifier back! She’ll figure it out sooner or later! I just love how every day she changes and is becoming so interactive and fun.
